Where Romance and Suspense Collide

Sandra S. Kerns’ Blog – Sock Monkey’s Journey

Hi! I know, I’ve been remiss in my blogging duties. But, I have vowed to make a change.

The major part of that change being – this blog is going to be more fun and less about writing. Unless someone asks a particular question about writing, then I will give you a quick post in response. But I promise to quickly return to my silly side.

You know I’m a writer, but I want you to get to know ME, and me to know you. In order to do that I decided to start with a relatively well known personality making an extended visit to my site. Yes, the wildly popular Sock Monkey will be visiting for a while telling us all about his experiences on the road.  I can hear you cheering already.

Here's Sock Monkey resting in his room in NY, in preparation for his trip west.

Here’s Sock Monkey resting in his room in NY, in preparation for his trip west.

We’ll begin this tale in New York with Sock Monkey chillin’ in his room’ before he starts his big journey to Colorado. Oh, didn’t I mention that? Yes, Sock Monkey drove halfway across the country to visit me in Colorado. Actually, he was moving my sister and her beau out here. (They were afraid to make the trip without his protection. He already traveled from Alaska to New York, so he’s considered a world traveler to them.)

As you can see, Sock Monkey is not a little guy. He can also be a bed hog, so if you ever find yourself having to share a hotel room with him, make sure you have two beds.

Back to the journey…The next day they finished loading the truck

and headed west. Sock Monkey was generous and drove the car. I say generous because he had two very unhappy cats, and a couple of crazy flamingos as passengers.  Don’t worry you’ll meet them later, well at least the flamingos. The cats weren’t very cooperative when it came to getting their pictures taken. They were more interested in trying to escape. Sock Monkey persevered with his ever present smile on his handsome face and managed to get everyone to their first hotel stop.

Come back soon for the lowdown on that. You do remember what spending the night in a hotel with pets is like, don’t you?

Until then, happy trails.

Hey Aunt Susie!!! I’m amped to see the popularity that my random Alaskan purchase of my 4ft tall sock monkey has gained. I hope the word keeps spreading!!

    • Sandra

      Karl,

Yes, his popularity grows each day. I think he is quick becoming the spokesperson for Sock Monkeys all over the world. People are so impressed by his wide travels, from Alaska to NY to CO and back to NY. He is very popular. Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be posting another installment later today. Love ya!

    Dear Sandra:

We love Sock Monkeys in our house as well. When my son was little he had pajamas and sheets sprinkled with sock monkeys and sock monkey slippers. He collected a fair number of knitted toys in the sock monkey style including a really interested sock octopus. We still have the whole five member sock monkey family including a Christmas ornament that is a real sock monkey made out of a toddler sock. Like you, we understand that certain toys pass that barrier from inanimate object to source of inspiration.

    • Sandra

      Martha,
Thanks for stopping by. Yes, certain toys do pass that barrier. After Sock Munkee’s journey is finished, I may have to do one on Buddy Bear. He came to live with us when my oldest was just 6 months old. Now my husband blames everything on poor Buddy. But, that’s another story. 🙂
I hope you will continue to enjoy this series of posts.

Great example of putting the advice to work. And I for one am much more likely to drop by a blog like this than something strictly on writing. My one question: does Sock Monkey take guests going BACK to NY? I visited there last year with a friend for 5 days and absolutely loved it. If I moved there, I don’t think I’d ever leave.

    • Sandra

      Hey Bonnie,

When Kristin suggested it, I started thinking about the few guest blogs I’ve done. Very few people stopped by and they were all writer friends. I wanted to reach readers! Plus, heck this is so much more fun than writing about work 🙂 Granted I love writing, but it is work.
As to Sock Munkee taking guests back. I would have to ask him and check. His schedule is pretty much in demand. Thanks again for stopping by.

You are too funny, Sandra! No wonder you’re an author–and a great one at that–you need that creative outlet! LOL!!!! Looking forward to Sock Munkee’s next post.

    • Sandra

      Thanks for stopping by, Lisa.

I’m having a lot of fun with this. My sister and I have always been a little ‘obsessive’ about our stuffed animals. 🙂
