Sock Munkee Jr. Celebrates with Sandra S. Kerns

photo

I tell you what, Sock Munkee Jr. is a real sweetheart. Even though he is a little miffed that I didn’t take him to the Death by Chocolate party in Atlanta, he still brought the balloons over for my sister. His, “Congratulations on reaching 10,000 in book sales, Sandra,” is still ringing in my ears. Look at that picture. Isn’t he just the cutest little guy you ever saw?

I promise, when I finish the pre-publication work for my next release, A Daring Proposal, I will start posting his adventures since he moved in with Joy and Pete. You won’t believe how much this guy gets around.

Until then, I plan on using the balloons for inspiration to get my work done so I can sell another 10,000. Thanks again, SMJ. You’re the best!

Sandra S. Kerns hits 10,000!!

Woohoo!

The balloons are from my sister in celebration of my reaching 10,000 in sales at 11:42pm on July 24th. She was actually a little upset because when she found out, the rest of us were asleep and she had no one to share the news with.

Now I would like to thank all my readers for helping me reach this milestone. To those who have been with me since the beginning of this journey last August, your continued support, reviews, and blog comments are greatly appreciated. To my newest readers who found me through the ‘free’ promotion of Her  Master Defender this month, welcome aboard. I hope to count you among my favorite fans for years to come.

To my family, thanks is not enough to say to show you my gratitude for your support over the years. Your belief in my writing is what has made all of this possible.

You are ALL the best!

Sandra S Kerns’ blog on Death by Chocolate

Death By Chocolate

It’s 10:50 pm and we just got back to our hotel after the Death by Chocolate party held by RWA’s Kiss of Death chapter. The treats were delicious and we ate so much chocolate our teeth hurt, but the company even better. We sat at a table with a great group of writers. There was a variety of both published and unpublished finalists at the table. We really didn’t know each other before tonight, but you wouldn’t know it if you had been listening in on our conversations.

First I’ll fill you in on the Unpublished finalists at our table. Denny S. Bryce received Honorable Mention in Category/Series for her story, Chasing Damn. Howard Lewis received Honorable Mention in the Mainstream category for his story, And Snakes Oh My. In the Single Title category, Tracy Poole took 2nd place for her story, A Risk Worth Taking.  They were all a blast to cheer on.

Before I tell you about the Published finalists at the table, let me explain how the published division works. They give out all the certificates and then announce the winner of the category. There are no 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, just finalists and a winner. My category, Category/Series was announced first. There were six finalists in the category, which to me says it was a pretty tight race. Unfortunately, I didn’t win, B.J. Daniels did. I was, however, the only self-published author in the group. I’m pretty proud to have placed with such well known names as B.J. Daniels, who was also the overall Published winner. The next one at our table to sit in the hot seat was Angie Fox, for her book (which I judged, and loved) Immortally Yours. Again, unfortunately, Angie didn’t win, though she felt like me that it was great to be in such great company. The winner was Christa McHugh, for her book, A Soul for Chaos, which was self-published and I also judged.  The last category to be announced was Mainstream, and we did have a winner. Sandy Parks, for Repossessed, won, beating out Hank Phillippi. Wow! Fantastic table, huh?

Later out in the hall, I ran into another lady, Joanna Campbell Slan who was a finalist in the Historical category. She hadn’t been at the party and asked if I had won and what category I was in. I told her and then we looked at the program, so I could try and tell her who won in her category. As I was looking it over, I realized she had won. She didn’t believe it, so I took her in to the room where the party had been. The coordinator was still there and she verified it. Joanna was stunned. It was almost as good as winning myself to give someone such great news.

Okay, I know this would all be more fun with pictures. I promise I have some, but it will take a few days for me to get those posted. I’ll get back to Colorado next week and I promise I will post pictures and book covers with links. Until then, go enjoy some more chocolate for me.

RWA’s Literacy Signing

I thought I would give you a quick nibble of some of the goings-on in ROMANCE this week.

I arrived in Atlanta yesterday so I can attend the Death by Chocolate Party and Award Ceremony tonight. If I somehow forgot to mention it here, I am a finalist in the Daphne du Maurier contest with Her Master Defender. But, I digress. Being in town the day before the party, I decided to stop in and see some friends at the Literacy Signing. RWA holds a book-signing each year at the conference to support literacy and give readers a chance to meet and talk to their favorite romance authors. It’s a great event.

The Marriott-Marquis did a wonderful job setting up the event. Hey, just walking in the doors of the hotel makes you feel like someone special, it’s that beautiful. Then, you go upstairs and enter into the hustle and bustle of a HUGE romance book-signing.

A Lady

The atmosphere was electric, and I got there near the end. Still the place was packed, the purchase lines long, and loads of authors smiling and visiting with fans. I was so overwhelmed I forgot the names of most of the authors I wanted to say hi to. Thankfully, New York Times bestselling historical author, Sabrina Jeffries was seated near where I entered and I stopped by her table. By the way, Sabrina’s book, A Lady Never Surrenders is a Rita Finalist! As big as being a Rita Finalist makes you, not to mention being a NYT bestseller, she smiled and happily helped me remember the last name of one of the friends I wanted to visit, Robin Owens.

Heart Secret

Robin is an award winning Futuristic/Fantasy writer. Yes, my brain does a serious short circuit when I get overwhelmed like that. Anyway, I found Robin’s table and chatted for a few minutes before picking up her book, Heart Secret and having her autograph it for me. Thankfully, my husband was with me, so he took the book and stood in the long check-out line while I continued to look for friends.

Defiant As I said, I got there late so I only had a short time before the authors, who had been there for more than two hours were packing up. I did manage to stop by another fellow Colorado Romance Writer’s table, Pamela Clare. Pamela’s book Defiant is a Rita Finalist, too. When I first got to Pamela’s table she was talking with someone about her audio books and how she managed to get a male, instead of the female voice the company wanted, to narrate one of her books. It was an interesting discussion to say the least. Then, while I was visiting with her another reader came up. She shook Pamela’s hand and told her it was great to meet her. I would think that is right up there with the top two author’s dreams. Pamela, as always, was gracious and friendly.

Kudos to RWA for putting on this wonderful event and to all of the hundreds of authors who participate. It was a wonderful time seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and of course, buying some great books to read.

Until next time, happy reading!
