First I want to let you know I may not be posting much this week as I am getting ready to go to the Crested Butte Writer’s Conference. My critique partner, Annette Elton and I are speaking at the conference, too. My mind is a bit full between tweaking the presentation and getting Callaghan out. Oh, I promise to post and let you know how Rehabilitating the Lion does in the Sandy contest at the conference. Cross your fingers for me. Sandra S. Kerns’ Blog – Sock Munkee is Back!

I apologize. It’s been a crazy week working on edits to get the next book ready for release next week. I let Sock look it over too and let me tell you, he’s pretty critical. Anyway, I also had to convince him no one would laugh at him for his holiday pictures. We all over eat and wear strange attire during the holidays. He finally relented and here you go – Sock Munkee’s Thanksgiving and Christmas photos.

We’ll start with Thanksgiving dinner. As you’ll see he really liked the bubbly we served. He wasn’t too shy about asking for seconds (and thirds) on dessert, either. Then he went back to his house and relaxed in front of the television for a while.

After he recovered from Thanksgiving he felt the need to spread some Christmas cheer. So, he dressed up like an elf and walked around the neighborhood making kids smile. Who wouldn’t smile looking at this guy?

Sock Monkey ElfUnfortunately, that was the end of his visit with us in Colorado. He missed his girls so much, he jumped in the box their Grandma was packing their presents in and got shipped back to NY.

He didn’t totally abandon Joy and Pete, though. While in Colorado he took a young Sock Munkee under his wing. The poor little fella didn’t have anything. No home, or food, or clothes; not even a name! So, Sock Munkee adopted him for Joy and Pete. Now known as Sock Munkee Jr. or SMJ for short, he lives a happy life in Colorado. He’s very friendly and has jumped right into family life. He supports Joy’s favorite team from NY, Syracuse.Sock Monkee Jr Cheering on Syr

He really got into the game. I didn’t even mind giving up my favorite chair for the little guy to enjoy.

So, the rest of the adventures will be with SMJ. If we get any family pics from back east we will definitely post them to keep you updated on Sock’s busy life.

I did promise you a picture from one of my readers. This was sent to me by Toni. Her family seems to be almost as addicted to Sock Monkeys as mine. Presenting…Mommy Monkey toes and Baby Monkey toes. IMG_0117

So, do YOU have any favorite Sock Monkey (or Sock Munkee) pictures to share? I know everyone would love to see them. Until our next visit with SMJ, take care and don’t get too carried away with your Munkee business!

Sandra S. Kerns’ Blog – Sock Munkee makes it to CO!

Sock Munkee had a busy day back in NY with his girls. He may be a traveler, but there’s nothing he likes more than hugs from his two favorite girls, J & L. I’m sorry, but with his popularity growing I just can’t reveal their real names. He doesn’t want his family impacted by all the notoriety.  (Yes, he did say that with sarcastically. He is really quite modest.)

Anyway, back to the trip to CO. After an amazingly restful night at the hotel they got on the road again pretty early. Though he made sure everyone who wanted it got some breakfast, they didn’t do any lollygagging. He didn’t even stop for coffee, just grabbed one of the free cups in the hotel lobby and they were off!

The drive was extremely windy. Diz and Bit kept meowing from the back that the car was going to blow off the road. That, of course, put the mingos in a tizzy and pink feathers were flying everywhere. Forget the wind outside the car, Sock was having a hard time seeing through the constant barrage of feathers. Eventually, using his amazing talent for calming creatures, everyone settled down and the mingos even took a nap.  With quiet, other than his oldies playing on the tape-deck, the morning flew by and before Dizzy could blink they were pulling into McDonald’s for lunch.

Nothing hits the spot like a Mickey D’s burger and fries when you are on the road. And the soda perked me right up!

Sock likes to take the girls to McDonald’s once in a while for a special treat. That was the only hard part of stopping there on the trip. It made him miss his girls. But, he promised them he would help their aunt with her move to Colorado, so he persevered.

Mingos on road trip

Don’t worry, I won’t let you fall off the bench. Now, smile!

After lunch they went outside to stretch their legs a little. Of course the mingos had to have their picture taken again.

Once Sock managed to get everyone back in the car, he kept up a tough pace. See, he loves all these critters, but being in a car with them all day was starting to get to him. And of course, at the next hotel, Bit managed to get under the bed to hide again; Diz tried to pull a Houdini but was grabbed just in the nick of time; and the mingos drove everyone nuts preening in front of the mirror over the dresser. The morning couldn’t come soon enough for Sock Munkee.

SM on Road Trip

No, we are NOT stopping for the bathroom again. We’re only 10 minutes away!

On the third day he was determined to reach their destination. Stops were few and far between. The wind hadn’t let up much. Thankfully, his crew figured out he was having to concentrate to keep the car on the road and they didn’t whine too much.

Finally, they pulled into Northern Colorado.  My son met them at the house to let them in (I had to work). By the time I got home everyone was relaxing in the backroom watching TV. Okay, not everyone. Sock was sitting in our front room by himself. I think he wanted some quiet time after listening to the kitties screaming to get out of the car. Of course, once they were out of the car, they started screaming about being in a house with a dog. Sheba was very gracious though, and didn’t even bark at them.

They made it to CO, but that’s not the end of the story. Sock Munkee’s girls were worried their grandma would miss them too much over the holidays, so they wanted him to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas out here. Tomorrow we’ll give you a peek at a rather piggy Sock Munkee.

Sandra S. Kerns’ Blog – Sock Munkee’s Journey Continues

Good morning, everyone! I finished edits (hopefully the last ones) on my next release, so I decided to get another installment of Sock Munkee’s journey out for you.

I’ve got Sock Munkee on the line early today so we can give you another installment before I go to Lamar’s for my free doughnut (it is National Donut Day) and he goes to Dunkin’ Donuts in NY for his. Believe me, Sock Munkee LOVES donuts (he prefers devil’s food chocolate glazed if you were wondering).

So, we promised you the lowdown on their first night in a hotel at the end of the first installment. Here we go.

Traveling Kitty

If Sock would slow down and roll down the window just a little I know I could squeeze through and be FREE!

They got through PA. That was an accomplishment with the kitties in the back screaming about their ‘jail cell’ all the way. Actually, Diz (the older of the two kitties) didn’t stay in the cell long. Sock Munkee said Diz is quite the escape artist. It took herless than five minutes to escape the harness the ‘humans’ put her in for walks on the way. Then, they barely got the car door closed before she was sitting in the window planning her escape from the car.

“I will not slow down or roll down the window,” Sock Munkee  told her, “So, hush and deal with it.”

OOO, OOO, me, take my picture.

Sock told me you have to be firm with the kitties or they think they can run the show. Now the flamingos on the other hand, are just silly.  He didn’t have to worry about them running off. They just wanted their pictures taken every time they stopped to fill up the truck.

SM on Facebook

We FINALLY made it to the hotel. The Lil Bit (the younger kitty) is hiding under the bed and Diz is prowling. The mingos are preening in the mirror for their next photo shoot. I swear Joy and Pete spoil them.

At the hotel Sock finally got some quiet time. He visited with friends on FB. He gave me his post that night, so I put it with the picture. It sounds like it’s going to be a LONG trip for him.

I guess it was difficult to get Bit out from under the bed the next morning. You know they close in the bottoms of all those hotel beds, so they had to take the mattress and boxspring off to get her out. Crazy Cat.

SM Nite Nite

Nite Nite

All in all it was a quiet night. Everyone was worn out from the excitement of starting their trip. The beds were comfortable and Sock Munkee did manage to get some good shut eye. He would need it for the next couple of days on the road.

Stay tuned for the next installment that will include their experience at McD’s before finally arriving in CO.

Now, off for our free donuts!!!

Sandra S. Kerns’ Blog – Apology to Sock Munkee

Late last night, I received an urgent email from Sock Munkee requesting a change to my blog post yesterday. I was so embarrassed. You would think as long as I have known him, I wouldn’t spell his name wrong, but there it is. Posted incorrectly for all the world to see. My apologies Sock Munkee. I’m just thankful you have agreed to continue your series with me.

Sock Munkee also wanted me to let you know he has his own Facebook page. I’ve added the link and his FB picture so you know you have the right one.

I hope you will all go and let him know you are enjoying his visit here.
